Hagen, September 04, 2026 – AI.OnAir is setting the course for a permanently fair, balanced, and high-quality radio program: With today's update, the innovative web radio station is introducing transparent upload limits in the Artist Hub and intelligent fairness rules for playlist rotation. The goal of these measures is to ensure the editorial quality of every single submission and to guarantee newcomers with smaller music catalogs the same discovery opportunities as established power users with hundreds of tracks.
Community project without a paywall: Focusing on quality and care
AI.OnAir sees itself as an open platform for the entire music community – the Artist Hub is available to all registered artists free of charge and without a paywall. To ensure this model remains sustainable even with rapidly growing popularity, editorial resources must be protected: Every submitted track should be listened to and reviewed attentively, rather than being waved through in a rush. If individual artists upload massive quantities within a few days, wait times for everyone increase, and smaller catalogs risk falling behind.
“We highly value the enormous activity of our power users and are delighted by the diversity they bring to our program.” emphasizes founder Dennis Vorberg. “At the same time, we are committed to ensuring that every song is reviewed with the necessary care. Our new limits create a level playing field: In the future, more songs will mean more stylistic variety in the tracks played – but not more airtime at the expense of the rest of the community. An artist with five outstanding songs should have the same fair chance to be heard and discovered as someone with 300 tracks in their catalog.”
Transparent upload limits: 15 songs per week, 30 songs per month
Effective immediately, two rolling limits apply to rotation submissions: a maximum of 15 songs within seven days and a maximum of 30 songs within 30 days. The limits are calculated separately for each artist. Anyone managing multiple artist profiles via a single user account will receive an individual quota for each artist.
As soon as a limit is reached, the Artist Hub displays a minute-by-minute countdown directly on the submission page. It transparently informs the user when the next upload slot will become available. Failed, canceled, or expired uploads do not permanently block the quota.
Balanced rotation: Intelligent fairness rules in the radio stream
Fair rules apply from today not only to submissions but are also active during live broadcasting: A large song catalog offers an artist more variety within their possible plays – but no unfair share of the overall program. A custom-developed rule system manages playlist playouts based on thoughtful criteria:
- Distance between artists: In regular operation, there are at least eight other artists between two plays of the same artist.
- Account protection: Even multiple artists under the same user account cannot bypass this rule. For a shared account, an additional minimum distance of five other tracks applies.
- Maximum share in a time window: Within a rolling window of three hours, a single user account may account for a maximum of 15 percent of the considered playouts.
- Protection against song repetition: A played song regularly receives a twelve-hour break to effectively prevent continuous loops.
Pragmatic exceptions for niche and specialized programs
Some special programs have smaller music catalogs due to their specific genre and still need to fill their airtime. In these bottleneck cases, the system is permitted to draw on another song by an already represented artist in a controlled manner, while prioritizing musicians who have been played less frequently until now. However, an immediate repetition of the same song is technically excluded. This ensures that every special program remains reliably filled without abandoning the fundamental principle of fair distribution.
The fairness rules at a glance:
- 15 songs within 7 days: A maximum of 15 songs can be submitted per artist within seven days.
- 30 songs within 30 days: Additional monthly cap of 30 rotation submissions per artist.
- Individual quota per artist: If an account manages multiple artists, the limits apply separately per artist profile.
- Transparent countdown: Shows exactly when the next song can be submitted on the upload page.
- Fair error handling: Canceled or failed uploads do not permanently consume the quota.
- More songs mean more variety – not more airtime: Large catalogs ensure more track variety, not more airplay at the expense of others.
- Balanced rotation: At least 8 other artists' distance between two tracks by the same performer.
- No bypassing via multi-accounts: Maximum 15% share per user account within 3 hours and 5-song distance.
- 12-hour track protection: Protects against annoying song repetitions.
- Sensible niche exceptions: Intelligent substitution for small program catalogs without duplicates.
- Community instead of paywall: Fair limits ensure permanently free access for all musicians.
